The wine : The Château Montrose is one of the most qualitative estates in the AOC Saint-Estèphe. This Second Grand Cru Classé has been among the absolute elite of the region for several years now and produces a first wine of rare elegance. Powerful, distinguished and capable of very long aging, notes of red and black fruits (raspberry, strawberry, blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry) as well as a touch of violet appear on the palate and are accompanied by very delicate yet powerful tannins. Thanks to its 18 months of barrel aging, this Grand Cru also displays a perfectly balanced oakiness bringing delicious spicy aromas (vanilla, pepper, licorice, etc.).
Of course, it is over time that the full measure of this wine’s aromatic complexity can be appreciated... If you are patient enough, you will then have access to an incredible aromatic palette of leather, tobacco, a minty freshness as well as earthy notes reminiscent of autumn. Tasting Château Montrose is the guarantee of an unforgettable memory that will last a lifetime!

The estate : Although it boasts a history spanning more than two centuries (the estate was founded by Étienne Théodore Dumoulin in 1815), it has been under the ownership of the Bouygues family since 2006. Château Montrose, the illustrious Second Cru Classé of 1855 from the AOC Saint-Estèphe. The 95 hectares of the estate are a single, continuous plot, mostly on soils composed of gravel mixed with sand and clay. The three wines produced by the estate are all of a very high standard but the first wine stands out year after year as exceptional and easily rivals the First Growths. Mélissa Bouygues and Hervé Berland officially oversee this magnificent terroir, composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. Half of the vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. In addition, vinification is parcel-based (over 90 vats at the estate!) and 4 very strict selections are made during harvest to keep only grapes worthy of the estate’s reputation. Tasting Château Montrose is to experience the elite of French wine and the very best of Bordeaux!
