The spirit : What can be said about this great Japanese Single Malt that hasn't already been said?! Yoichi is a little marvel of harmony displaying a perfectly balanced profile enhanced by a light and delicate ashy peat. Its texture is ample and smooth, and aromas of citrus and spices (vanilla, nutmeg, clove, pepper) and dried fruits (hazelnut) blend subtly with saline notes that immediately make you want to dive back in. The brand : Born in 1894 into a family of sake producers, Masataka Taketsuru is now considered the father of Japanese whisky. After training as a chemist, he was hired by the Settsu Shuzo company, which sent him to Scotland in 1918 to complete his apprenticeship. Masataka then developed a passion for whisky and decided to dedicate his life to it. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. Its growing success enabled it to establish a second one in 1969 near Sendai: Miyagikyo. It is from the single malts of these two distilleries that the Nikka group now offers its entire splendid and renowned range of Japanese whiskies.
