The spirit: What can be said about this great Japanese Single Malt that hasn't already been said ?! Yoichi is a little marvel of harmony displaying a perfectly balanced profile enhanced with a light and fine ash peat. Its body is ample, suave and aromas of citrus fruits, spices (vanilla, nutmeg, cloves, pepper) and dried fruits (hazelnut) subtly combine with salt notes making you immediately want to dive into it again. A very classic acorn to absolutely know for any whisky lover!

The brand: Born in 1894 in a family of sake producers, Masataka Taketsuru is today considered the father of Japanese whisky. After training as a chemist, he was hired by the Settsu Shuzo company which sent him to Scotland in 1918 to complete his apprenticeship. Masataka then developed a passion for whisky and decided to dedicate his life to it. In 1934, he built Yoichi, his first distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. His growing success allowed him to establish a second one in 1969 near Sendai: Miyagikyo. It is from the single malts of these two distilleries that the group Nikka today offers all of its splendid and renowned range of Japanese whiskys.
