Marsannay is a small appellation of 245 hectares located south of Dijon, marking the beginning of the Côte de Nuits. The AOC predominantly produces red wines from the Pinot Noir grape, although some white wines made from Chardonnay are produced, as well as some rosé wines. The terroir of the area is clay-limestone and most wines exhibit a beautiful finesse and are very enjoyable in their youth on the fruit. Nevertheless, on the best-exposed plots, some red wines can show a very fine character and a more pronounced tannic presence. Marsannay is an appellation where it is still possible to find great value for money in Burgundy.
