AOC Pessac-Léognan

The Pessac-Léognan AOC has only existed since 1987. Previously, the wines produced in this magnificent area located south of Bordeaux bore the Graves appellation. Yet, it is a remarkable winegrowing region with a very ancient history. As proof: the classification of Château Haut-Brion as a Grand Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification. To this day, it remains the only estate outside the Médoc to be included in the renowned classification. Spanning nearly  2,000 hectares, the appellation produces 85% red wines and 15% white wines, all dry. The terroir consists of pebbles, gravel, stones as well as sand and clay.The main grape varieties are, for reds, Merlot (52%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (42%), and for whites, Sauvignon Blanc (78%) as well as Sémillon  (21%). The wines produced here offer a character marked by delightful gourmandise as well as a fleshy texture, balanced by fine tannins. The white wines, meanwhile, offer smoothness and freshness.
