The Ribera del Duero DO is one of the most famous wine regions in Spain, along with the Rioja DOCa. Spanning over 25,000 hectares located between 720 and 1000 meters in altitude, it is situated inland, about 180 km north of Madrid. Its climate is highly continental and Mediterranean, characterized by very high temperatures (especially in summer) and cold, harsh winters. Rainfall here is very low, around 400 to 500 mm per year. The vineyard soils are clay-limestone and stony, allowing the local star grape variety, Tempranillo (90% of plantings), to thrive fully.This one can be blended with up to 25% of other minority varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, or even Grenache Noir.
