History of the Marchand-Grillot estate

The Marchand-Grillot estate is a family-owned vineyard founded in 1950 following the union of the Marchand family, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, and the Grillot family, originally from Gevrey-Chambertin. The property is now in the hands of their grandsons, Jacques Marchand, as well as his children Marion and Étienne.

A dozen hectares make up the estate, spread over prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits, notably Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis. The grape variety is almost exclusively Pinot Noir. Very committed to expressing the terroir, the estate favors sustainable viticulture, even organic on certain plots, with manual harvesting and extremely meticulous work from the vineyard to the cellar. The vinification process is traditional, with aging in oak barrels that leaves little mark on the wines and aims to respect the unique style of each terroir.

The wines of Domaine Marchand-Grillot are distinguished by their elegance, finesse, and beautiful structure. Today, the estate is recognized for its high standards and consistency, and is considered one of the most reliable names in the Côte de Nuits.

The wines of Domaine Marchand-Grillot

At the top of its range, the prestigious Grand Cru Ruchottes-Chambertin stands out for its poor, sloping limestone soil, which gives rise to a wine of great finesse, depth, and persistence.

The estate also produces several Gevrey-Chambertin Premiers Crus, each revealing a unique personality: Petite-Chapelle, on marl rich in fossils, offers a silky texture and delicate aromas, while La Perrière, on hard limestone, produces a more taut and mineral wine.

The collection of village appellation climats is equally expressive. Localities such as Champerrier Vigne Centenaire, with its very old vines planted in 1903, express a refined style, while Le Créot or En Jouise reveal fruitier and more accessible profiles. The estate completes its range with cuvées from Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, bringing floral finesse and velvety texture, respectively.

Finally, more affordable cuvées such as Bourgogne Pinot Noir or Coteaux Bourguignons allow you to discover the Marchand-Grillot style in a more relaxed way. Thanks to environmentally friendly viticulture and careful winemaking, each cuvée highlights the richness and diversity of Burgundy's terroirs.

In the end, the wines of Domaine Marchand-Grillot stand out for their purity of expression, tannic finesse, and their ability to age harmoniously. A beautiful illustration of Pinot Noir in all its nobility, serving the finest terroirs of Burgundy.
