Also known as Côt, this variety originates from the Southwest of France and is today the king grape variety of the AOC Cahors, where it thrives thanks to the limestone terroir of the region. It is also found in Bordeaux (notably on the right bank) but also within other appellations of the southwest (Bergerac, Pécharmant, Montravel, etc.), the Languedoc, or even the Loire.Internationally, it is very  present in Argentina, which is the world's largest producer, and also in Chile to a lesser extent. Malbec is capable of producing wines with ripe and smooth fruitiness when vinified gently, but it generally expresses itself with a great tannic potential on notes of black fruits and spices. It is, of course, capable of producing wines with very long aging potential.
