The AOC Alsace was officially recognized in 1962 and covers approximately 15,000 hectares of vines producing 90% of t9>white wines. The vast majority of these wines are composed of a single grape variety among the following seven: Muscat, Sylvaner, Pinot gris, Pinot blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot noir. Within this beautiful region, 51 Grands Crus exist, plots ranging from 3 to 80 hectares rewarding 500 hectares, the most beautiful terroirs having the best soils and exhibitions. The wines offered within these appellations are as diverse as their terroirs and grape varieties but often reflect a beautiful freshness and a great minerality.
