The wine : The "Coudoulet" cuvée is often seen as the second wine of Château Beaucastel. This 30-hectare terroir in the Côtes-du-Rhône AOC indeed shares many similarities with that of the estate’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape: sandstone and clay soils covered with rolled pebbles that store heat. The nose and palate here reveal subtle notes of red and black fruits (cherry, raspberry, plum) mingling with Provençal aromas (thyme, bay leaf, lavender) as well as a spicy touch (pepper, licorice). Great finesse is present during tasting, with a particularly suave palate. The finish offers a very lovely, pulpy length. Do not hesitate to decant this beautiful bottle before tasting to reveal all its aromatic complexity!

The estate : The Château de Beaucastel covers 100 hectares of vines, three-quarters of which are in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC (the remaining quarter being in the Côtes-du-Rhône AOC). The estate benefits from a terroir with porous soils, mainly composed of rolled pebbles, and is the first vineyard in the Rhône Valley certified in Organic Farming since 1964. The estate is also one of the few to use all 13 grape varieties authorized in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in its wines. Managed by the Perrin family, an iconic sibling group of the region and of wine in France, Château de Beaucastel simply represents the elite of its appellation, and enthusiasts snap up the estate’s cuvées year after year.
