The wine : The "Coudoulet" vintage is often perceived as the second wine of Château Beaucastel. This 30-hectare terroir in AOC Côtes-du-Rhône has indeed many similarities with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape soils of the estate: sandstone and clay are here covered with rolled pebbles storing heat. The nose and palate express melted notes of both red and black fruits (cherry, raspberry, plum) mixed with scents of Provence (thyme, bay leaf, lavender) as well as a spicy touch (pepper, licorice). A beautiful finesse is present in tasting and the body of this wine is particularly smooth. The finish offers a nice pulpy length. Do not hesitate to decant this beautiful bottle before tasting in order to reveal all its aromatic complexity!

The estate: The Château de Beaucastel extends over 100 hectares of vines, 3/4 of which are in AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape (the remaining 1/4 being in AOC Côtes-du-Rhône). The property has a terroir with porous soils, composed mainly of rolled pebbles and has been the first vineyard of the Rhône Valley certified in Organic Agriculture since 1964.  The estate is also one of the only ones to use the 13 grape varieties authorized in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in its wines.  Directed by the Perrin, iconic family of the region, Château de Beaucastel simply represents the elite of its appellation and enthusiasts snap up the property's vintages year after year.
