The wine: The Château Trotte Vieille is undoubtedly one of the greatest wines of Saint-Émilion. This Premier Grand Cru Classé of the appellation is in fact a great classic and is praised by enthusiasts for its elegance, its gourmandise as well as its good aging potential. notes of ripe red and black fruits (cherry, raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant) mingle here with a very noble oak bringing a spicy tint (vanilla, cedar, roasting etc.). The estate: Curious name, this Château Trotte Vieille, isn't it ? Legend has it that several centuries ago, a solitary old lady lived in the area. The latter making numerous return trips to the nearby post house, the place finally took its current name. Beyond this pleasant anecdote, the real wine-growing history of the property will begin in the 15th century. Then, if the following centuries will see the owners multiply, it was finally the Castéja family who took charge from the 1960s. Today, their sumptuous vineyard 'extends over 12 hectares and is characterized by a significant proportion of Cabernet-franc (46%, including more than 3000 pre-phylloxera vines), supplemented by Merlot (the majority still with 49%) and Cabernet-Sauvignon (5%).
