The story of Château Montrose began in 1815 when Étienne Théodore Dumoulin discovered a neglected plot of land belonging to his family. Convinced of the potential of this terroir, he decided to plant a vineyard there. This marked the beginning of a legend: 40 years later, the estate was recognized as a Second Grand Cru in the prestigious 1855 classification. Since then, it has continued to reach new heights. Passing through various owners such as Mathieu Dollfus in 1866, then the Charmolüe family in 1896—who are credited with much of the estate’s remarkable development—it was ultimately Martin and Olivier Bouygues who acquired the 95 hectares in 2006. From that point on, they launched an extensive modernization project, allowing this illustrious château to now be part of the absolute elite of the Bordeaux region.A large portion of the vineyards is cultivated using organic farming methods, and the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot make up the majority of the plantings, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vineyard is managed with the utmost care, allowing the Bouygues family to produce wines of incredible aromatic elegance vintage after vintage.
