AOC Madiran

The Madiran AOC covers 1,400 hectares across 3 departments:  Gers, Pyrénées Atlantiques, and Hautes Pyrénées. The birthplace of the native grape variety Tannat, the appellation overlaps with  Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, producing white wines in the same area with the Gros and Petit Manseng grape varieties. There is significant sunshine here during the summer and mild winters, promoting high ripeness levels at harvest time. Tannat produces  structured and tannic wines, allowing for excellent cellaring potential. It is sometimes blended with the varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon (locally called Fer Servadou).
