The wine: What a delicious success than this Madiran Vieilles Vignes from Château Bouscassé! Coming from vines with an average age of 80 years, this 100% Tannat impresses as much with its power as with its finesse. An incredible aromatic concentration is there, enhanced by 16 months of aging in new oak barrels. Notes of black fruits (blackcurrant, cherry, blackberry, plum) mingle with an exquisite spicy imprint (pepper, garrigue, licorice) as well as a melted woodiness bringing notes of vanilla, cedar and chocolate. An elegant and distinguished wine with great aging potential. Wonderful pairings with duck, red meats and game.

The estate: There is today no longer need to introduce Alain Brumont ! Iconic revealer of the Madiran appellation, in 40 years he has been able to raise his properties to the top of the South-West region and highlight the incredible potential of the local Tannat grape variety.

It all began in 1979 when he inherited the 17 family hectares of Château Bouscassé. Then, at the beginning of the 1980s, he acquired Château Montus and met Baron Philippe de Rothschild at Château Mouton-Rothschild (Grand Cru Classé de l’AOC Pauillac): that’s what clicked. Particularly inspired by their exchanges, he now clearly displays his vision of wanting to produce great wines in Madiran, an appellation then mainly renowned for its rustic wines.

The first vintage of Château Montus in 1982 made a lot of noise: the press praised the work carried out while the French and foreign markets discovered a noble, powerful wine with certain aging potential. Since then, the man has continued to research and select the best terroirs in his native region. Today at the head of 250 hectares, Vignobles Brumont continues to be an absolute reference throughout the South-West and Alain, although still invested, has now passed the reins of the house to his son-in-law Antoine Veiry. Go here to discover their magnificent vintages, you won't regret it!
