The wine : Very charming, this Saint-Émilion from the Leydet family evokes grace and elegance during tasting. Notes of red and black fruits (plum, strawberry, blackberry, blackcurrant) mingle with a seductive touch of violet as well as a hint of pepper. The oak is very delicate here and does not dominate but simply accompanies the whole on a velvety texture as well as very fine tannins. While this cuvée is superbly enjoyable in its youth, it also has aging potential of a good ten years which will then allow it to develop notes of leather, mushroom, and undergrowth. Real favorite!

The estate : In 1973, Clos de Valentin was purchased by the Leydet family, who also own Château de Valois in the Pomerol appellation. In 1983, when it became a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, the vineyard finally became Château Leydet-Valentin. In 1996, the family story continued when Frédéric Leydet, son of Bernard, began working at the estate before gradually taking over. Since the 2015 vintage, the 16 hectares, composed mainly of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, have been certified organic. The estate’s cuvées perfectly reflect all the finesse and elegance of these great Bordeaux terroirs... a superb discovery awaits!
