The estate : The Château Calon-Ségur is the northernmost Grand Cru Classé in the Médoc. While Calon refers to the commune of Saint-Estèphe, Ségur comes from Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, president of the Bordeaux Parliament in the 18th century and owner (at the time) of the châteaux Lafite and Latour. At the end of the 19th century, the estate passed into the hands of the Capbern-Gasqueton family, who sold it in 2012 to the Suravenir insurance group. Since then, considerable work has been carried out in the vineyard as well as in the cellar, and the property has experienced a meteoric rise that few Bordeaux Grands Crus can boast. Connoisseurs are not mistaken, and the bottles are highly sought after. Calon-Ségur and its 55 hectares of quaternary gravel soils and clay subsoil now represent the elite of the region.
