The wine: With its majority of Pinot noir supplemented with Chardonnay as well as a hint of Pinot meunier, the Royale Réserve Non dosé cuvée from Philipponnat is built on the same basis as the delicious Royale Réserve Brut champagne, the house's flagship. The difference here lies in the absence of dosage (zero added sugar) giving this sparkling wine a very pure, mineral and elegant aromatic. notes of citrus, green apple and pear evoke a lovely distinguished fruitiness and magnify the whole, supported by a bubble that is always very delicate. A superb bottle, ideal as an aperitif, with seafood, shellfish and fish!

The estate: For more than 5 centuries now (1522), Philipponnat highlights the great terroirs of the villages of Ay, Mareuil-sur-Ay and Avenay, all located south of the Montagne de Reims. Since 2000, Charles Philipponnat has been at the head of this beautiful Champagne house and it is largely thanks to his initiative that we owe the brand's impressive qualitative progression. Made up of 20 hectares, a large majority of which is Pinot noir, the house's vineyard is exclusively spread over Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages. The finest grapes from the estate undoubtedly come from the famous Clos des Goisses, a unique and very qualitative plot of 5.5 hectares with a south-facing exposure that the family has been operating for over 100 years now. The style of the house's wines could be summed up in 3 words: richness, complexity and precision. The use of 25 to 35% of reserve wines kept in barrels gives the cuvées produced a remarkable taste intensity as well as a remarkable aromatic richness which delight amateurs.
