The IGP Côtes Catalanes (formerly Vin de Pays Côtes Catalanes) is located in Roussillon and spans 4,000 hectares. The production is divided between red wines (50%), rosés (28%), and whites (22%). The climate of the area is hot and sunny, causing significant water stress. The soils of the region are varied, ranging from schists, clay-limestone to sands and granites. A very large number of grape varieties can be used, offering a wide variety of choices to local winemakers. Among others, for reds, one can mention grenache noir, carignan, cinsault, mourvèdre, syrah, or the local Lledoner pelut. In white, grenache blanc, grenache gris, maccabeu, roussanne, marsanne, chardonnay or vermentino can be used. It is difficult to pinpoint a precise wine style given the diversity within the region. Nevertheless, the Château de L'Ou as well as the domaine des Schistes are two magnificent examples of the region's richness.
