The Bodegas Protos are historical references in the history of Spanish winemaking and more specifically of the brilliant Spanish appellation Ribera del Duero. The story begins in 1927 when 11 winemakers wishing to reveal to the world the quality of the region's terroirs joined forces. Originally called Ribera del Duero, this association of winemakers eventually gave its name to the appellation in 1982, and the company then changed its name to Protos, meaning first in Greek. This winemaking group has since become a symbol of Spanish winemaking success, and the wines are now exported to all corners of the world. The magnificent grape variety Tempranillo is celebrated here.
