The Chinon AOC covers 2,300 hectares to the south-east of Tours. Its climate is semi-oceanic and 3 terroirs are to be identified here: the terraces on the banks of the Vienne (tributary of the Loire) composed of gravel and sand , some hillsides composed of yellow tufa (limestone) and other hillsides more clay-limestone. Here, the main grape variety is Cabernet-Franc (locally called "Breton"), and makes up all the red wines (95% of the production of the appellation). More rarely, the Cabernet-Sauvignon is associated with it but must represent less than 10% of the blend. rosé wines (4%) and whites (1%) are also made in the appellation area and the latter (the whites) are exclusively made from Chenin . The wines of the region are sought after for their light, fruity and sincere expression of Cabernet Franc, but in hot vintages, as has often been the case in recent years, certain cuvées can express great power.
