Purchase AOC Saint-Julien wines

The Saint-Julien appellation is particularly appreciated by enthusiasts because it represents a magnificent compromise between the power of wines from its northern neighbors Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe and the softness and more feminine character of an appellation like Margaux  further south. With 11 Grands Crus Classés  such as Château Gruaud-Larose, the AOC shines with its  920 hectares producing only great red wines. Its terroir is marked by clay-limestone subsoils and a gravel soil. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the most planted grape variety here, covering 60%  of the vineyard, and is complemented by Merlot (32%) as well as other varieties like Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
