The wine : With this Beaune Premier Cru Clos du Roi, Domaine Decelle & Fils delivers a Pinot Noir of remarkable intensity. Sourced from old vines over 50 years old in the northern part of the appellation, it is a deep, generous wine built to age. Ripe cherry and blackberry mingle with notes of pepper, clove and star anise, while 18 months in oak barrels add a delicate toasted nuance. On the palate, power meets precision, with the flavours lingering through an exceptionally long finish. A superb Burgundy to enjoy now for its intensity or cellar to discover the complexity that time will bring. An absolute favourite, and a bottle to remember!

The estate : Founded in 2009 by Olivier Decelle (Mas Amiel in Languedoc, Vignoble de Boisseyt in the Rhône, Château Jean-Faure in Saint-Émilion) and Pierre-Jean Villa (famous winemaker from the north of the Rhône Valley), the estate was originally called Decelle-Villa. Following the latter's departure in 2020, the business changed its name to become Decelle & Fils. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the house now has 7 hectares cultivated organically on the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The twenty or so cuvées produced across the different appellations perfectly express the diversity of character of Burgundy's terroirs and climates.
