Rum Nation

Rum Nation is a brand of rums founded in 1999 by former Italian oenologist Fabio Rossi. Its goal: to reveal to the world the diversity of Caribbean and South American terroirs. Thus, the range gives pride of place to Spanish-influenced rums, known for their generous, round, and warm characteristics. While the company is based in Italy, the spirits are purchased directly from the distilleries and must comply with a very strict set of specifications, allowing all the typical features of the local terroirs to stand out.

A pioneering brand in the discovery of rums from around the world

When Fabio Rossi launched Rum Nation in 1999, the European market for tasting rums was still relatively limited. At that time, enthusiasts mainly knew a few major historical origins, while many producing countries remained largely unknown to the general public.

The brand helps to change this situation by highlighting rums from territories as varied as Panama, Guatemala, Venezuela, Guyana, and Jamaica. This approach allows many consumers to discover the richness and diversity of styles produced around the world, well before these origins became popular among spirits enthusiasts.

Rum Nation also stands out for a philosophy centered on the pleasure of tasting. Rather than systematically seeking power or the most confidential bottlings, the brand favors expressive, balanced, and accessible rums, capable of appealing to both connoisseurs and enthusiasts wishing to deepen their discovery of this universe.

This combination of diversity of origins, quality selections, and excellent value for money largely explains why Rum Nation is today considered one of the most influential bottlers in the rum world in Europe.

Rum Nation: exploring the great terroirs of rum

Founded by Italian oenologist Fabio Rossi, Rum Nation was born from a long-standing passion for spirits and great terroirs. Coming from a family active in the wine trade for several generations, Rossi applies to the world of rum a philosophy inspired by oenology: highlighting the origin, aging, and unique identity of each distillate rather than seeking a uniform style.

Unlike a traditional distillery, Rum Nation does not directly produce its rums. The brand selects distillates from renowned producers before aging, refining, or blending them according to a precise set of specifications. This independent bottler approach allows it to work with a wide variety of raw materials, fermentation methods, and distillation techniques.

The attention given to aging is also one of the house's signatures. Depending on the references, the rums may benefit from aging in Bourbon, Sherry, or Port casks, each vessel imparting specific aromatic nuances. Some references are also offered as limited editions, single cask, or at higher alcohol strengths in order to preserve the fullest expression of the spirit.

Today, Rum Nation is recognized for the consistency of its selection and for its ability to offer accessible tasting rums without sacrificing quality. This commitment has helped make the brand one of the essential references for enthusiasts wishing to explore the richness of rum through different production traditions.

How to properly taste a Rum Nation rum ?

Rum Nation rums are primarily designed for tasting and generally deserve to be enjoyed neat in order to reveal their full aromatic complexity.

We recommend that you serve them at room temperature in a tulip glass or a glass specially designed for spirits. This type of glassware allows the aromas to be concentrated and makes it easier to appreciate all the subtleties of the rum.

Before tasting, feel free to let the spirit aerate for a few minutes in the glass. The youngest and lightest rums often reveal their fragrances quickly, while some older or more concentrated cuvées benefit from opening up gradually.

The aromatic palette varies greatly depending on the country of origin, the type of distillation, and the aging process. References from Panama or Venezuela generally offer rounded and indulgent profiles, marked by notes of vanilla, caramel, honey, dried fruits, or chocolate. Conversely, rums from Jamaica or Guyana often display more character, with more intense aromas of ripe exotic fruits, spices, molasses, cocoa, or precious woods.
