Domaine Figuière

The Figuière estate embodies a true favorite in the land of Provence. Taken over in 1992 by Alain Combard, he continued and structured the practice of organic farming that had already been initiated in 1979 on the property. Today, his children Magali, Delphine, and François carry on this wonderful adventure by producing characterful wines in all three colors: rosé, white, and red. The vineyard covers 185 hectares, spread between clay-limestone soils and schist terroirs, which bring great depth to the cuvées. The wines of the Combard family shine both in AOC Côtes-de-Provence and in IGP Méditerranée, and represent one of the finest wine expressions of the region. To discover without hesitation!

Domaine Figuière: Provence between sea and hills

Located in the beautiful village of La Londe-les-Maures, between the foothills of the Maures and the Mediterranean, Domaine Figuière stands out as one of the emblematic vineyards of wine-growing Provence. Owned by the Combard family since 1992, this family estate was founded on a strong conviction: to produce authentic, elegant wines that respect their environment. This philosophy, inherited from Alain Combard, former partner of Michel Laroche in Chablis, saw in this sun-drenched terroir a tremendous potential for wines of character.

From the very beginning, Figuière has been committed to organic viticulture, long before this approach became a trend.Certified organic since 1979, the estate uses no synthetic chemical products. This rigorous, nature-friendly approach aims to preserve the balance of living organisms and to reveal all the richness of the soils in each cuvée.

The 185-hectare vineyard now extends over three complementary areas:

  • The terroir of La Londe-les-Maures, the historic heart of the estate, is located on the Mediterranean coast and lies on ancient schist soils, typical of the Massif des Maures. This poor, well-drained soil, combined with the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea, offers ideal conditions for producing tense, elegant, and mineral wines, notably white and rosé wines of great finesse. It is within this area that the estate has its oldest vines.
  • The Pignan vineyards, located further inland at the foot of the Maures massif, are rooted in deeper clay-limestone soils. This terroir gives the grapes a more generous structure and greater richness, particularly suited to the production of powerful and complex red wines. It is a complementary area to La Londe, bringing density and depth to the blends.
  • Finally, Collobrières, less well-known but equally valuable, is a forested and wild terroir located in the heights of the Maures. It features very schistose soils and remarkable biodiversity. Cooler and later-ripening, it allows the production of wines with great aromatic freshness and a beautiful mineral expression. This confidential area offers an interesting contrast with the other areas, further enriching the estate's palette.

The grape varieties of Domaine Figuière

Domaine Figuière cultivates a wide range of grape varieties, carefully selected to reveal the richness and complexity of its Provençal terroirs. The distribution between red and white grape varieties allows the estate to produce balanced wines in all three colors.

For rosé and red wines, the main grape varieties are Grenache noir, which brings fruitiness, warmth, and roundness; Syrah, highly valued for its spicy aromas and structure; Cinsault, a light and delicate grape, perfect for the freshness and finesse of rosés; as well as Mourvèdre, a characterful variety that gives reds depth, complexity, and excellent aging potential.

For white wines, the main varieties are Rolle (Vermentino), producing lively, elegant wines with floral and citrus notes; Sémillon, which brings roundness and richness; and Ugni blanc, used for its freshness and natural acidity.

This beautiful diversity of varieties, complemented by other minor grape varieties, allows Figuière to blend each cuvée with precision according to its style, its terroir, and its appellation (AOC Côtes-de-Provence, IGP Méditerranée, IGP Var), while maintaining a strong and coherent identity throughout the entire range.

The Mediterranean climate, generous sunshine, low rainfall, as well as the protective effect of the mistral, also contribute to ideal conditions for vine cultivation.

The wines of Domaine Figuière

Domaine Figuière offers a coherent and comprehensive range of wines, divided into several collections, each reflecting a unique interpretation of the Provençal terroir. From fruity accessibility to gastronomic cuvées, the estate offers precise, elegant, and sincere wines, exclusively from organic farming.

The IGP Méditerranée cuvées represent the gateway into the Figuière universe. These are accessible, straightforward, indulgents and perfectly crafted wines, to be enjoyed in their youth. Aged in tanks, without wood, they favor immediate pleasure, lightness, and aromatic purity. Perfect for convivial moments or simple, sunny pairings!

The Première range embodies the historical and identity core of the estate and is classified as AOC Côtes-de-Provence. The rosé, ample and saline, can easily go beyond just being an aperitif: it is a fine and elegant wine. The white, mainly made from Vermentino, captivates with its mineral finesse, natural tension, and bouquet of citrus and white flowers. As for the red, a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache, it combines structure, freshness, and elegance, with definite aging potential. The wines in the Première range precisely reflect the uniqueness of the schist soils and the maritime climate, offering balanced, expressive cuvées that are deeply rooted in their Provençal region.

Finally, at the top of the quality scale, the Confidentielle range embodies the highest expression of Figuière’s expertise. Produced in very small quantities from the estate’s oldest vines, these cuvées are truly characterful wines, demanding and ambitious. The Confidentielle rosé, partially aged in barrels, offers a rare depth and richness for this color. The white, pure Vermentino aged in demi-muids, reveals a silky texture, great freshness, and a remarkable aging potential.

As for the red, it stands out for its controlled power, silky tannins, notes of garrigue and spices, and its persistent finish. These cuvées are designed for gastronomy and cellaring, true witnesses to the potential of the great terroirs of Provence.
At the same time, the estate offers other cuvées such as Atmosphère, a sparkling rosé made using the traditional method, as well as wines like Pionnière, a top-of-the-range exceptional rosé.

Thanks to this wide range, the Figuière family manages to offer precise and inspired wines, from enjoyable IGPs to the great gastronomic cuvées, with a common thread: elegance, sincerity, and respect for life.
