Curious name, this Château Trotte Vieille, isn't it? Legend has it that several centuries ago, a solitary old lady lived in the area. She frequently made trips to the nearby post relay, and eventually, the place took on its current name. Beyond this charming anecdote, the real winemaking history of the property began in the 15th century. Then, while the following centuries saw multiple owners, it was ultimately the Castéja family that took the helm from the 1960s onwards. Today, their vineyard spans 12 hectares and is characterized by a significant portion of Cabernet Franc(46%, including more than 3000 pre-phylloxera vines), complemented by Merlot (still the majority with 49%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Grand Cru Classéof Saint-Émilion uninterrupted since 1955, Château Trotte Vieille is recognized as one of the greatest successes of the region.
