The Hermitage AOC is (along with Côte Rôtie), the jewel of the Northern Rhône Valley. Covering only 135 hectares and 3 communes, the appellation is renowned for its granite, sandy, and stony soils which allow the production of exceptional red (65%) and white (35%) wines. The latter are exclusively produced from the grape varieties marsanne and roussanne, while the former come from Syrah (with the possibility of adding up to 15% white). Here, the days are sunny and the Mediterranean climate is refreshed by the mistral wind. The wines are deep, rich, and have excellent aging potential, regardless of their color. These are cuvées that are undoubtedly part of the French wine elite.
