AOC Beaune is an appellation created in 1936 that is part of the Côte de Beaune and located between Savigny-lès-Beaune and Pommard. Comprising just over 400 hectares of which 85% are planted with Pinot Noir, the appellation has 42 climates classified as Premier Cru (representing 70% of the vineyard) including the famous Clos des Mouches. The terroir here is clay-limestone and there is a great diversity of cuvées, but the red wines are rather racy and powerful, sometimes deserving to wait 10 to 20 years. The white wines are more intended to be drunk during their youth.
