The AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur alone account for 50% of the region's production and cover the entire Bordeaux vineyard. The red wines are mainly made from the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, complemented by other less common varieties such as Malbec, Petit Verdot, or Carménère. The white wines are mainly produced from a blend of varieties Sauvignon and Sémillon, although others like Muscadelle can also be included in the blend. These regional appellations cover a great diversity of soils, ranging from clay-limestone to gravel. The wines produced are often supple, fruityand are best enjoyed in their youth.
