BIODYNAMIC
Keywords : Indulgent / Spicy / Elegant
The wine : The "Coteaux Calcaires" cuvée (formerly "Réserve") from the Barmès-Buecher family is a benchmark Pinot Noir in Alsace, aged for 10 months in old oak barrels, which allows it to develop a lovely texture. The palate is deep, indulgent, mineral and reveals notes of black cherry, blackberry, strawberry, and raspberry. A spicy touch of pepper and vanilla completes an aromatic palette of great overall complexity. An Alsatian delight enjoyable now but which will reach its best after a few years of cellaring.

The estate : Located in Wettolsheim near Colmar and founded in 1985 by Geneviève Buecher and François Barmès by merging their family vineyards, the Barmès-Buecher estate is today one of the jewels of Alsatian winegrowing. The conversion to biodynamics began in 1998, and their children Maxime (viticulture and winemaking) and Sophie (communication and sales) are now mainly in charge of the 18-hectare property. Planted 95% in white (mainly Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris), and spread over a great mosaic of terroirs unique to Alsace (clay-limestone, marl-sandstone, granite, etc.), the family vineyard produces very pure wines with great aging potential, especially for all the Grands Crus. The yeasts are, of course, indigenous and very little sulfur is used in winemaking.
