The wine : Clos des Goisses is the emblematic terroir of Maison Philipponnat and one of the most prestigious single-vineyard champagnes in the region. This historic clos in the village of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ stands out for its spectacular slope and full southern exposure, offering grapes of remarkable ripeness while preserving the energy unique to its chalk terroir. This 2016 vintage combines with rare mastery power, depth, and precision.
The bouquet opens with pear, peach, apricot, and ripe citrus, before revealing nuances of brioche, vanilla, and cinnamon. The palate, ample and creamy, impresses with its balance between maturity and freshness. A long, saline, and spicy finish extends the whole with exceptional persistence. Much more than a celebratory champagne, Clos des Goisses is a great wine of terroir and gastronomy, capable of accompanying lobster, turbot, poultry with morels, or a soft cheese. Already expressive, it also has the necessary potential to evolve with nobility for several decades.

The estate : For over 5 centuries now (since 1522), Philipponnat has showcased the great terroirs of the villages of Ay, Mareuil-sur-Ay, and Avenay, all located south of the Montagne de Reims. Since 2000, Charles Philipponnat has been at the helm of this renowned Champagne house, and it is largely thanks to his initiative that the brand has seen such an impressive qualitative progression.Comprising 20 hectares, the majority of which is Pinot Noir, the estate’s vineyard is exclusively distributed across Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages. The finest grapes from the estate undoubtedly come from the famous Clos des Goisses, a unique and highly prestigious 5.5-hectare plot with full southern exposure that the family has been cultivating for over 100 years. The style of the house’s wines can be summed up in three words: richness, complexity, and precision. The use of 25 to 35% reserve wines aged in barrels gives the produced cuvées a remarkable taste intensity and aromatic richness that delight enthusiasts.
