AOC Saint-Véran

Located in the heart of the Mâconnais, in the south of Burgundy, the Saint-Véran appellation covers nearly 750 hectares and produces exclusively white wines from the Chardonnay grape variety. Neighboring the illustrious Pouilly-Fuissé, it spreads over often steep clay-limestone hillsides that are particularly favorable for viticulture. The wines of Saint-Véran generally offer a generous and indulgent profile, marked by notes of white fruits and a beautiful roundness on the palate. This richness is, however, well balanced by a freshness that brings elegance and tension to the whole. The appellation also stands out for its particularly attractive value for money, as demonstrated by the meticulous work of the Bodillard estate.

Why choose white wines from the Saint-Véran appellation ?

Choosing a white wine from the Saint-Véran AOC means opting for one of the most attractive expressions of Burgundy Chardonnay. Located in the heart of the Mâconnais, this appellation, neighboring the prestigious Pouilly-Fuissé, benefits from clay-limestone soils that are particularly favorable to the expression of the grape variety.

The white wines produced here, made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape, stand out for their balance between indulgentroundness and freshness and develop aromas of white flowers as well as fruits such as peach or apricot. The cuvées are also almost automatically aged in oak barrels, which brings roundness, a rich mouthfeel, as well as notes of sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon, clove, etc.).

Another major advantage of the appellation: the quality-price ratio. Saint-Véran wines are indeed much more affordable in terms of price compared to certain other Burgundy appellations such as the neighboring Pouilly-Fuissé or other renowned AOCs of the Côte de Beaune like Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet.
The white wines of Saint-Véran therefore represent an excellent gateway to the great Chardonnays of Burgundy, combining immediate pleasure, finesse, and authenticity.

Gastronomic pairings with Saint-Véran white wines

Thanks to its roundness and beautiful balance, Saint-Véran white wine pairs with a wide variety of dishes.

Saint-Véran will pair particularly well with seafood such as scallops, grilled fish, or even langoustines.

Saint-Véran wines also pair very well with poultry and white meats, especially when prepared with creamy or mushroom sauces. The roundness of the wine then perfectly matches the texture of the dish.

Finally, Saint-Véran white wine pairs wonderfully with many cheeses, especially goat cheeses or certain cheeses from Burgundy. The liveliness of the wine then elegantly contrasts with the milky and sometimes slightly salty character of these products.

As you can see, Saint-Véran white wines are excellent table companions, able to accompany both an elegant aperitif and a complete meal.

We also recommend serving your bottle slightly chilled, between 10 and 12 °C, so that its aromas can fully express themselves.

In summary

In summary, the white wines from the Saint-Véran appellation offer a beautiful expression of Burgundian Chardonnay, combining roundness, freshness, and elegance. Thanks to their generous aromas and balanced minerality, they are appealing both as an aperitif and at the table. Accessible while remaining true to the style of the great white wines of Burgundy, Saint-Véran represents an excellent opportunity to discover the richness of the Mâconnais through authentic and particularly enjoyable wines to taste.
