The AOC Côtes-du-Roussillon extends over 118 communes in the Pyrénées-Orientales and covers 3,650 hectares, evolving over a landscape of hills and terraces. The soils in the area are very varied, ranging from schists, granites, gneiss, and clay-limestone. 80% of the production is reserved for red wines, mainly composed of the grape varieties Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. The whites are mainly produced with Grenache blanc, Malvoisie, Maccabeu, Vermentino, Roussanne, Marsanne or even Grenache gris.The region also produces very lovely rosés to which the Mediterranean climate gives a delightful indulgence. The Domaine des Schistes selected here is a flagship vineyard of the region and wonderfully illustrates the richness of regional terroirs through pleasure cuvées as well as parcel-based cuvées expressing richness and complexity.
