The Côtes-du-Roussillon AOCcovers 118 communes in the Pyrénées-Orientales and includes 3,650 hectares, stretching across a landscape of hills and terraces. The soils in the area are highly diverse, ranging from schist, granite, gneiss, and clay-limestone. 80% of the production is dedicated to red wines, mainly made from the grape varieties Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. White wines are mainly produced from Grenache Blanc, Malvoisie, Maccabeu, Vermentino, Roussanne, Marsanne and also Grenache Gris. The region also produces very fine rosés, to which the Mediterranean climate lends a delightful richness.The Domaine des Schistes selected here is a flagship vineyard of the region and perfectly illustrates the richness of the local terroirs through both enjoyable cuvées and single-parcel cuvées expressing depth and complexity.
