Located on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, the Pietradolce estate stands out as a leading reference for great volcanic wines from Italy. With 30 hectares of vineyards planted at altitude on soils rich in volcanic rocks, the estate produces cuvées of great precision, both red (rosso) and white (bianco).
The emblematic red grape variety here is Nerello Mascalese. This grape produces elegant and structured wines. On the nose, tastings often reveal an aromatic palette combining red fruits, spices, and mineral notes. On the palate, the balance is excellent with delicate tannins, beautiful freshness, and a persistent finish, a signature of the great terroirs of Etna DOC.
Alongside the red wines, the Etna DOC appellation also shines for the quality of its white wines, mainly made from the Carricante grape variety. Grown at altitude, this variety gives rise to wines of great tension and remarkable precision. On the nose, Carricante-based whites are regularly distinguished by a beautiful aromatic expression combining citrus fruits, white flowers, and saline notes. On the palate, they captivate with their straightforwardness and freshness, and are marked by a minerality typical of the Etna terroirs.
The vineyard also features more exclusive wines, such as Etna Bianco Superiore. These wines represent the most accomplished expression of the great white wines of Etna. Produced exclusively in the municipality of Milo, on the eastern slope of the volcano, they benefit from a terroir marked by maritime influence and high altitude, ideal for preserving freshness and tension. Made predominantly, if not exclusively, from the Carricante grape variety, these wines stand out for their precision and finesse. Thanks to a prolonged aging and a remarkable aging potential, Etna Bianco Superiore are among the most complex and age-worthy white wines in all of Sicily.
Through this diversity of cuvées, from structured reds to the most vibrant whites, the Pietradolce estate demonstrates the richness and uniqueness of Etna’s terroirs. Each bottle here is part of a true quest for precision, where every detail matters, from vineyard management to aging.
The estate, for example, takes care to strongly limit sulfites in order to best preserve the authentic expression of their volcanic terroir. As a result, wines that are both precise, balanced, and have great aging potential, while remaining accessible even in their youth. Offered at very fair prices considering their high quality, Pietradolce wines are an excellent gateway to Sicilian wines.
