The AOC Savoie extends over almost
2,000 hectares and covers the entire Savoyard region. Founded in 1973, it mainly produces
white wines (70%) but also
reds,
rosés and sparkling wines. 15 villages (or crus) are distinguished within it and can be mentioned on the bottle (such as Apremont,
Chignin or Chignin-Bergeron). The climate is of course
mountain and has many influences (oceanic, Mediterranean, etc.). The vines are often
planted on hillsides in order to
promote maturity. The soils are mainly
clay-limestone and the grape varieties are mainly composed of
Jacquère, Roussanne and Roussette (or Altesse) in white, while
Gamay, Pinot noir and Mondeuse make up most of the reds and rosés.
