The AOC Bergerac is located in the south-west of the Dordogne and encompasses the appellations Côtes-du-Bergerac as well as Dry Bergerac. The whole is spread over 7,150 hectares of vines growing on clay-limestone and sandy soils. The climate here is oceanic, similar to that of neighboring Bordeaux. The grape varieties highlighted are cabernet-franc, merlot, cabernet-sauvignon and malbec for reds, while sauvignon, sémillon and muscadelle are authorized in white Côtes-du-Bergerac. The wines are very varied: if most are intended to be consumed in their relative youth, small yields, a beautiful terroir and aging in barrels can allow certain cuvées to offer deep and intense aromatics with excellent value for money while enjoying good aging potential.
