Curious name, this Château Trotte Vieille, isn’t it? Legend has it that several centuries ago, a lonely old lady lived in the area. As she made many trips back and forth to the nearby post relay, the place eventually took on its current name. Beyond this charming anecdote, the real winemaking history of the estate began in the 15th century. Then, while the following centuries saw the owners multiply, it was ultimately the Castéja family who took over in the 1960s. Today, their vineyard covers 12 hectares and is characterized by a significant portion of Cabernet Franc(46%, including more than 3,000 pre-phylloxera vines), complemented by Merlot (still the majority with 49%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Grand Cru Classéof Saint-Émilion continuously since 1955, Château Trotte Vieille is recognized as one of the region’s greatest successes. Discover this iconic property of Bordeaux’s right bank !
