Curious name, this Château Trotte Vieille, isn't it ? Legend has it that it was several centuries ago , a lonely old lady lived nearby. The latter making numerous return trips to the nearby post house, the place finally took its current name. Beyond this pleasant anecdote, the real wine-growing history of the property begins in the 15th century. Then, if the following centuries saw the number of owners multiply, it was finally the Castéja family who took charge from the 1960s. Today, their vineyard is 'extends over 12 hectares and is characterized by a significant share of Cabernet-franc (46%, including more than 3000 prephylloxera vines), completed by Merlot (the majority still with 49%) and Cabernet-Sauvignon (5%). Grand Cru Classéof Saint-Émilion continuously since 1955, Château Trotte Vieille is recognized as one of the greatest successes of the region.
