Wine: TheChâteau Montrose is one of the the most qualitative of the AOC Saint-Estèphe. This Second Grand Cru Classé has for several years now been close to the absolute elite of the regionand produces a first wine of rare elegance. Powerful , racy and capable of a very long aging, notes of red and black fruits (raspberry, strawberry, blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry) as well as a touch of violet appear on the palate and are accompanied by very delicate yet powerful tannins. Thanks to its 18 months of aging in barrels, this Grand Cru also presents a very precise woodiness bringing delicious spicy aromas (vanilla, pepper, licorice etc.).
Of course, it is with time that the full measure of the aromatic complexity of this wine can be taken...If you are patient enough, you will then have access to a incredible aromatic palette on leather, tobacco, minty freshness as well as humus notes reminiscent of autumn. The domain: Although having a long history of more than two centuries (the creation of the estate by Étienne Théodore Dumoulin dating back to 1815), since 2006 the Bouygues family has been at the head of Château Montrose, an illustrious Second Cru Classé of 1855 from the AOC Saint-Estèphe. The 95 hectares of the property extend in a single block and evolve mainly on soils composed of gravel mixed with sand and clay. The three wines made by the estate are all of a very high standard, but the first wine proves to be exceptional year after year and easily meets the Premiers Crus Classés. Mélissa Bouygues and Hervé Berland officially watch over this magnificent terroir made up of 60% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet-Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Half of the vineyard is cultivated according to the precepts of Organic Agriculture. In addition, the vinifications here are by plot (more than 90 vats on the estate!) and 4 very demanding sortings are carried out during the harvest in order to keep only the grapes worthy of the rank of the property. To taste Château Montrose is to taste the elite of French wine and the best of Bordeaux!
