The Estate: The Château Calon-Ségur is the most northerly Grand Cru Classé of the Médoc. If Calon designates the commune of Saint-Estèphe, Ségur comes from the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, president of the Parliament of Bordeaux in the 18th century and owner (at the time) of the Lafite and Latour castles . At the end of the 19th century, the estate passed into the hands of the Capbern-Gasqueton family, who sold it in 2012 to the Suravenir insurance group. Since then, considerable work has been carried out both in the vineyard and in the cellar and the property has experienced a meteoric rise of which few Bordeaux Grands Crus can boast. The amateurs are not mistaken and the bottles are snapped up. Calon-Ségur and its 55 hectares of quaternary gravel soil and clayey subsoil now represents the elite of the region.
