Purchase AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines

The AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape is located in the southern Rhone Valley, north of the city of Avignon. This is one of the most renowned in the entire French wine-growing landscape. Its origins date back to the 14th century, when Pope John XXII built a fortress in the town of the same name and developed the vineyard there. Covering approximately 3,200 hectares, the region is best known for its full-bodied red wines that keep very well (93% of production) but a small proportion of white wines of high quality is also produced (7%). The grape varieties used are 13 in number (or 17 if the variants of the other color are considered) but the most common are the famous grenache, syrah and mourvèdre in red as well as the grenache blanc , Clairette, bourboulenc and roussanne in white. From a terroir point of view, the soils of the region are not limited to the famous rolled pebbles which, although very present, are supplemented by sandy and clay-limestone areas.
