The Bodegas Protos are historical references in Spanish wine history and more particularly of the brilliant Spanish appellation Ribera del Duero. The story begins in 1927 when 11 winegrowers wishing to reveal the quality of the region's terroirs to the whole world joined forces. Originally called Ribera del Duero, this association of winegrowers finally gave its name to the appellation in 1982 and the company then changed its surname to Protos, meaning first in Greek. This wine group has since become a symbol of Spanish winemaking success and the wines are now exported to all four corners of the world. The magnificent Tempranillo and Verdejo grape varieties are honored here on the DO Ribera del Dubero and Rueda.
