AOC Cahors

Created in 1971, the Cahors AOC now covers 3,300 hectares in the Lot department. Producing only red wines, the local star here is Malbec (also known as Côt), producing cuvées with an intense black color. It can sometimes be blended in small quantities with Merlot as well as Tannat. The vineyards are mainly located on flat areas with clay-limestone soils and more rarely on steep slopes. The climate is oceanic and Mediterranean, giving the region significant sunshine during the summer, which promotes excellent ripeness in the grapes. While the appellation is renowned for its production of robust and structured wines, a new wave (of which Château Les Croisille is a part) now offers a more modern style, focusing on an intense, beautiful fruitiness and a smoother, more delicate, and refined profile.
