AOC Sauternes

Located southeast of Bordeaux, the magnificent Sauternes appellation resonates with lovers of sweet wines. The production of these exquisite dessert wines is made possible thanks to very specific climatic conditions, notably allowing for the formation of morning mists that encourage the development of noble rot (botrytis cinerea). This process acts on the grapes by concentrating their sugar and acidity as well as their aromas. Nestled within the Graves area, the Sauternes vineyard covers more than 1,500 hectares with gravelly and clay-limestone soils. The grape varieties planted here are mainly Sémillon (70%), Sauvignon Blanc as well as the minority Muscadelle. The blending of these three varieties enables the creation of wines counted among the greatest sweet wines in the world.
