The wine: Caune d'en Joffre is a charming single-plot cuvée made from old vines of Carignan planted in 1950 by the Sire family. This pretty bottle offers us deep red and black fruits (cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant) as well as very fragrant notes of garrigue. A wine that can be enjoyed now or kept in the cellar for a few years and which will ideally pair with white or red meats. Delicious and distinguished!

The estate: Located in Estagel to the northwest of Perpignan, the domaine des Schistes  belongs to the Sire family, winegrowers since the beginning of the 19th century. Jacques Sire took the estate out of the cooperative system in 1989 and today it is his son, Mickaël, who manages the property. The wines have been certified in Organic Agriculture since 2010 and are notably produced in AOC Côtes du Roussillon, Maury, Muscat de Rivesaltes and IGP Côtes Catalanes. The 48 hectares of the property are divided into several blocks and grow mainly on schist terroirs (as the name of the estate indicates!). Carignan and LLadoner Pelut are the stars in red while Grenache blanc, Grenache Gris and Macabeu represent the majority of the white composition. The estate's vintages are very varied: some are focused on fruit and immediate pleasure while others are deep, complex and deserve to be kept in the cellar for several years. Freshness is a common thread in all wines. A very beautiful family estate in Roussillon!
