If the vine has been present in Beaumes-de-Venise since Antiquity, it was not until 2005 that it became a full-fledged appellation. Indeed, between 1957 and 2004, Beaumes-de-Venise was first integrated into the AOC Côtes-du-Rhône and then into Côtes-du-Rhône Villages. Today, the appellation covers more than 700 hectaresallowing only the production of red wines. Be careful not to confuse it with the AOC Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, which covers the same area but is reserved for the production of a delicious Vin Doux Naturel made from Muscat. Here, the grape varieties Grenache(present at a minimum of 50% in the wines), Syrah, Cinsaultand Carignan take the lead and thrive beautifully thanks to a warm climate with Mediterranean influence as well as clay-limestone and sandy terroirs. Finally, some white grape varieties can also be used in red wines (maximum 10%), constituting a signature for certain producers.
