The wine: Are you a lover of powerful and complex wines ? Amarone is made for you! This great wine, undoubtedly part of the elite of Italian wines, offers incredible richness and complexity to the taster. The harvested grapes are left here on straw trays for around a hundred days (passage). The result is a loss of water within the berries of 40% on average, creating insanely intense aromas. When it opens, it's a real festival: candied fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry), heady spices (cloves, cinnamon, pepper), tobacco , chocolate, fig etc. A very high level bottle which must be decanted upon opening and which will be enjoyed with red meats or game. The estate: Le Calendre is a family farm with 4 hectares extending over the commune of San Pietro in Cariano, north of Verona and in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico DOC. Here, the vines are cultivated using a system of pergolas providing the grapes with more light and wind, thus promoting maturity and helping to avoid certain diseases. At the estate, the work is hand-stitched and every detail is important, from the care given to the vines throughout the year to the precision of the slightest gesture during winemaking. Although not officially certified, the cultivation methods and techniques used in the winery are similar to organic farming.
