The AOC Savoie covers almost
2,000 hectares and encompasses the entire Savoy region. Created in 1973, it primarily produces
white wines (70%) but also
red,
rosé, and sparkling wines. 15 villages (or crus) are distinguished within it and can be mentioned on the bottle (such as Apremont,
Chignin or Chignin-Bergeron). The climate is, of course,
mountainous and has numerous influences (oceanic, Mediterranean, etc.). The vineyards are often
planted on hillsides to
promote ripening.The soils are mainly
clay-limestone and the grape varieties are predominantly composed of
Jacquère, Roussanne, and Roussette (or Altesse) in white, while
Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Mondeuse make up the majority of the reds and rosés.
