The DOC Prosecco is a famous Italian appellation shared between the regions of Friuli and Veneto, both located in the northeast of Italy. Covering more than 26,000 hectares with a single grape variety (Glera), this DOC is at the base of the hierarchical pyramid of the region. It is indeed the equivalent of a regional French AOC and allows the production of the famous sparkling wine in more than 550 municipalities. At the higher levels, there are the DOC Prosecco Treviso (95 municipalities), the DOCG Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore (only 15 municipalities), and finally the DOCG Prosecco Cartizze representing the highest classification level and covering only 107 hectares. Additionally, several types of Proseccos exist: Spumante, Frizzante, and Tranquillo. The Prosecco spumante is a sparkling wine with classic effervescence, while the Prosecco frizzante has finer and lighter bubbles. Finally, there are even still Proseccos, meaning without any bubbles! The Prosecco Sacchetto offered here by La Cave Éclairée is a festive, fruity Spumante, very pleasant as an aperitif and ideal for making lovely Spritz!
